The short answer
Four GLP-1 medicines are sold in India: semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy, the Rybelsus tablet and 10+ Indian generics), tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Yurpeak), dulaglutide (Trulicity) and liraglutide (Victoza and biosimilars). Only semaglutide and tirzepatide are sold for weight management. The cheapest is generic semaglutide, from about ₹220 a week. All need a doctor’s prescription.

Which ones are approved for weight loss in India?
This is where most confusion comes from, because several drugs approved for weight loss abroad are sold in India only for type 2 diabetes.
- Approved for weight management: semaglutide at the 2.4 mg obesity dose (Wegovy, and generic brands with an obesity indication) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Yurpeak) — for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition.
- Diabetes only in India: liraglutide (Saxenda, its weight-loss version, is not marketed here), dulaglutide and oral semaglutide.
Indian clinical guidelines use lower BMI thresholds for South Asians than these label cut-offs — the eligibility check applies them.

None of these can be legally bought in India today. Unauthorised “Foundayo” listings have already appeared online — avoid them.
